Q: What is Nashville Singers?
A: Nashville Singers was founded in 2008 by a handful of men who had the desire to join their voices with the voices of others committed to excellence in vocal and choral performance.
Q: What is the mission of the Nashville Singers?
A: To entertain, educate, unite and uplift our audiences and members through music that is distinguished for its innovation, diversity and artistic excellence.
Q: Who are the members of the organization?
A: Our members come from all walks of life, range in age from teenagers to retirees and and reside in Brentwood, Hermitage, Joelton, LaVergne, Lebanon, Madison, Nashville, Portland, and Smyrna. Nashville Singers is an arts organization. We have an open-door policy, respectful of diversity and welcoming to all male singers who demonstrate the ability, desire, and a commitment to excellence in vocal and choral performance.
Q: What if I can't make a performance?
A: While the quality of the chorus depends to a certain extent on the continuity of the individuals that make it up, we understand there may be many things in your life more important than the Nashville Singers. We do ask you to make a commitment to us, and that we make the same commitment to you, but you should not feel that you have to be able to make every single appearance to be one of us.
Q: Do you have to sing to join Nashville Singers?
A: No. A special class of membership has been created to allow "non-singers" to be a part of Nashville Singers. Associates assist the organization in a wide range of activities including administrative support.
Q: How do I join as a singing member?
A: Auditions can be scheduled at your convenience. For additional information, visit the auditions page of this website or send an email to membership@nashvillesingers.org.
Q: Do you have to read music to be a singing member?
A: Singing members do not have to read music to join Nashville Singers. Part-predominant learning media is provided for most songs in the repertoire. The chorus asks that all members have a commitment to the mission of the organization and the desire to perform.
Q: Can I be added to the mailing list?
A: To be added to the Nashville Singers mailing list, click on the "join our mailing list" button in the main menu of this website.
Q: Will the Nashville Singers sing for me or my organization?
A: Nashville Singers is open to invitations to sing for audiences around the world. As a volunteer chorus our available performance time is limited. For information on booking the full chorus or a quartet, send an email to bookings@nashvillesingers.org.
Q: Does Nashville Singers tour?
A: Nashville Singers is available to perform world-wide when afforded the invitation. As an all volunteer chorus, the chorus has limited financial resources to make such ventures.
Q: Are the singers professionals?
A: All of the singers in Nashville Singers are volunteers and receive no compensation for their participation in the chorus. The members come from a variety of professions and walks of life.
Q: Are the singers paid to perform?
A: All of the singers in Nashville Singers are volunteers and receive no individual payment for their participation.
Q: How long has Nashville Singers been in existence?
A: The first public meeting of this new ensemble took place on November 13, 2008 at the Harborview at Cheswicke community clubhouse.
Q: What repertoire does the chorus perform?
A: The chorus is committed to performing a wide range of musical styles at a very high level. The repertoire encompasses many genres, from popular music, songs of Broadway, movies, musicals, Americana, traditional, southern gospel, patriotic, holiday, and sacred music.
Q: How often are rehearsals held?
A: The chorus meets on the first three Thursday evenings of each month, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Rehearsals are held at the Whitworth Memorial Baptist church, located at 3014 Elm Hill Pike Nashville, TN 37214. There are occasional deviations from this schedule so check the calendar page for confirmation. The address and a map can be found on the "Visit a Meeting" page of this website.
Q: What costs are associated with membership?
A: Student dues are $10 per month. Standard dues are are $20 per month. Dues can be paid for in blocks of six or 12-months. The six month block for students is $60. The six month standard dues block is $120. Student dues for one year are $120. Standard dues for one year are $240. The dues structure is subject to change. Members are also required to purchase their own wardrobe items (a one-time expense of approximately $130). There are other occasional costume expenses but these tend to be very small. Q: Where does my dues money go?
A: Member dues cover only 15% of the cost of running the chorus. The other 85% comes from a variety of other sources.
